Most beginner calligraphy classes give you a quick introduction, but after the class ends, you still feel unsure of what to practice or how to improve.
This workshop was designed to bridge that gap.
Over two sessions, you'll learn the structure behind modern calligraphy so you can practice with clarity and confidence.
---
Weekend One | The Foundation + The Minuscules
Before we start writing letters in calligraphy, we need to learn the basics. For this first lesson, we will learn about the history of Western calligraphy, all the tools and supplies we're using throughout class, and the fundamental strokes that will make up your letterforms.
After the break, we will learn the structure of every letterform so you can build them confidently without needing to trace every single time.
Weekend Two | Majuscule Letters, Spacing, and Practice
Now it's time to learn the remainder of the alphabet with the uppercase letterforms. After that, I'll walk you through the process of connecting your letterforms into words, so you can go home and practice some connections before our last class.
In the second half of class, you'll practice writing words using panagrams. I will provide guidelines of different sizes for you to practice without tracing. At this point in the workshop, I will also be sure to give every student individual feedback so you know what to work on in the weeks to come outside the classroom.
