Distillery of Modern Art would not be what it is without inventive artwork. We have been lucky enough to facilitate an evolving canvas for some exceptional local artists to display their work in our space, the most recent being “Dream Garden,” a piece by Lela Brunet. Inspired by art nouveau and abstract expressionism, Brunet explains that the idea behind the mural is “to see a window into a landscape of your dreams.”
Brunet began her artistic journey as an Art Education major pursuing a career as an Adaptive Art Teacher. However, she found herself getting more and more opportunities to produce work professionally through commission pieces, gallery shows, and mural festivals- she faced a crossroads: follow her original path or take a risk and pursue something new. Brunet took the path that “scared her the most” and hasn’t looked back- leading to commissions from big brands such as Starbucks, Pepsi, Microsoft, Soul Cycle, and more.
Brunet’s artistic style consists of intricate detail combined with explosive patterns and colors. She starts every piece by “saying hello” to the canvas before utilizing bright and bold depictions and dynamic line movement to create something unique. Brunet says, “Creating this mural for [Distillery of Modern Art] was very special to me. When I finished painting it, I stood back and smiled so big. It was meant for that space!”
Lela’s work contributes to Distillery of Modern Art coming to life. She says “The whole space is stunning…I can’t wait to see the awe in everyone’s eyes. Every inch of that place was artistically created, and you can tell how much thoughtfulness and love were put into it. I was honored to paint my mural there.”
