HELEN ZIGA ARTIST SHOWCASE

Sat., Apr. 27, 7-8 p.m.

Join us for Helen Ziga’s Gallery Showcase. Ziga will be in the Watson Gallery discussing her work and answering guest questions.

Artist Statement:

I am inspired by the beauty and complexity of color and shape, making reference to the physical world as I experience it. The aesthetic of my artwork is a geometric, hard-edged abstraction. I use large and small shapes, lines, patterns and color relationships to represent a metaphor about the space and control an artist has over said visual space. While at first glance the artworks are aesthetically pleasing, I purposefully provide multiple points for the eye to rest. The size of the panel, the compositional scale, color saturation and brightness, proximity and distance, create a planar surface that does not stop moving. My intent is to ensure the painting has no object, no singular point that the viewer can depend on to define the composition. The eye will be continuously redirected to other areas of the plane. There is no place for rest.

My artistic lineage comes from Minimalism, the Graphic Arts and Feminism, occasionally converging geometric shapes with craft-based materials. I create acrylic paintings on canvas, wood and paper and often incorporate embroidery as a nod to craft. I relate to the texture and warmth embroidery adds to a surface. Much of my work is mapped out in advance, sketched out in Adobe Illustrator, and drawn on the surface before I begin painting. This process allows me to focus as I take the work into its final form.

Peachtree Farm’s mission is to provide meaningful employment opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Currently, Peachtree Farm operates a 3000sqft greenhouse on two acres of land in Peachtree Corners. They serve 50 individuals with disabilities each month, offering vocational training and valuable skills development. Last year alone, the farm grew over 1 ton of tomatoes, which were distributed through a wholesaler, a food desert mobile market, and farmers markets.

By attending this event, you are not only supporting local artists but also making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities. Join us for an afternoon of art, community, and giving back.

SUSAN PROCTOR ARTIST SHOWCASE

Fri., May 10, 7-8 p.m.

Join us for Susan Proctor’s Gallery Showcase. Proctor will be in the Watson Gallery discussing her work and answering guest questions.

Artist Statement:

Taste, touch, smell sight and sound create an awareness of surroundings and sensibilities.

Layers of acrylic paint and collage create heightened depth and interest. Abstract shapes and forms allow the eye to move through the canvas whether the subject be objective or non-objective. The creative experience, for me, is both conscious and subliminal. It is a spiritual place within that produces a work that has the ability to evoke response from the viewer.

Your ticket includes a cocktail before the event.

STEVE DINBERG ARTIST SHOWCASE

Sat., May 11, 7-8 p.m.

Join us for Steve Dinberg’s Gallery Showcase. Dinberg will be in the Watson Gallery discussing her work and answering guest questions.

Artist Statement:

For me photography has always been fun and full of magic. As a kid, it was fun to compose, fun to capture, magic to spend time in the darkroom developing and processing film, but most of all, fun to share my photos.

It was fun to seek out and engage people, and magic to travel to new lands or find the unusual. It was magic to convey an emotion or make a point and touch others through visual imagery that I created. As an adult, photography continues to be more fun and magical than I ever dreamed! Despite changes in technology that have occurred during my lifetime, the aesthetics of photography remains much the same. The creative mind of the photographer is still the most important element needed to create a great photo. The camera doesn’t create a photograph, it’s merely a tool. We still need to be aware, and have the willingness to take time to interact with our subjects, and to learn seek and experiment with new processes.  But most of all, never forget the process that allows us to create.

I have been fortunate to have traveled to many amazing countries, as I love people, and being able to wander the streets that have taken me to back on not so traveled roads.

Today, photography continues to be fun and magical!

I’ve always been excited to have the opportunity to show in a gallery and thought when that time came, I would be showing people and images of the many streets traveled. However, this show has allowed me to delve into my library of images and explore a different aspect of this art by creating abstracts through the use of textures, light and shapes. I’m reinspired by the magic I find in it and continue to have fun on the journey. I hope you find in these images your own interpretation of the magic.

Your ticket includes a cocktail before the event.

LEARN THE ART OF ENGRAVING ON GLASS

Sun., May 26, 2-4 p.m.

As a professional calligrapher, I have learned to apply my lettering skills to varied materials including engraving on glass. One of my favorite brand activations (for me and the businesses I work with) is fragrance engraving on-site. After a year and a half of practice, I’ve combined all of my knowledge into one class to teach you how to engrave on glass.

In this 2-hour course, you’ll learn how to use a hand drill to engrave on glass. We’ll cover the basics of how to use the tool, techniques for applying the design onto glass, using different size burrs (tips), and adjusting the pressure and speed of the engraver to achieve the result you desire. You’ll have an opportunity to engrave on a flat piece of glass and round and curved objects.

Calligraphy experience is not necessary to take this class. We’ll use lettering examples and basic drawings to learn how to use the engraver.

Supplies are not included in this class.

An engraver will be provided for class use and an option to purchase the tool after class. Glass sheets and other varied materials like bottles and glassware will be available for students to use during and at the end of class. Worksheets are also included.

Please arrive early to order a cocktail and some snacks before class begins!
