Distillery of Modern Art’s aged whiskeys are the culmination of a 5-year journey of passion, dedication and craftsmanship to bring people together through exceptional liquid that truly embodies the Art of the Spirit. We’ve spent years perfecting our mash bills and tasting products as they matured to release our signature Bourbon and Rye whiskeys at the end of 2024. And now in the coming weeks, we’re launching a Distillery Whiskey Tour for fans of aged products to learn more about and taste our whiskey evolution. Attendees can expect to:
- Start with our Research & Development (R&D) offerings which were a series of experimentations made offsite as part of our pre-opening R&D series. We had some ideas for the mash bill and our partner did too; but it was certainly a process of trial and error. After a few months of aging, we decided to dump over half of the stock. It simply did meet our standards but the 4 sips provided at the start of the tour (2 half ounce pours of an R&D single barrel bourbon and 2 half ounce pours of an R&D single barrel rye) show the promise for where we were headed.
- Enjoy a back of house tour following the opening whiskey flight. You’ll learn more about the DoMA brand and our spirit making process. There will be special content related to our whiskey production process including but not limited to the specific grains we use, our preferred barrel charring style, how we monitor our barrels, and more.
- Conclude the tour with a flight of the whiskeys made on site in Chamblee: half ounce pours of Corn Whiskey Batch #2 (116 proof, 100% white corn, aged in a combination of ex-rye barrels and ex-bourbon barrels that were used again to age imperial stout and barley wine), Bourbon (90 proof, 67% corn, 21% rye, 12% barley), and Rye (100 proof, 70% rye, 15% corn, 15% barley). We’re so proud of these products and if you enjoy them too, we hope you’ll take home a bottle or two.
DoMA’s Whiskey Tour will launch on Sunday, May 18 (noon, 1 and 4 PM slots available) and it will be led by our Head Distiller, Matt Grief. Our Whiskey Tour will be led by other staff for the following Sundays with occasional black out dates (like during our 3-year anniversary party on Sunday June 1) on our calendar. The tour will last approximately 45 minutes and is limited to a maximum of 15 people.
