We’re thrilled to welcome Lola Okunola and Travis Love, local artists with international inspirations, to exhibit “Heritage in Hues” in our Watson Gallery September 12 – November 10. Their dynamic styles complement each other beautifully and bring an exciting energy to our smallest private event rental space. Lola will host an artist showcase on Saturday, September 21; Travis’ artist showcase is the following Friday, September 27. ARTIST BIOS

Lola Okunola is an award-winning mixed media artist celebrated for her vibrant, textured works that beautifully capture the essence of African culture and fashion. Her art, characterized by bold colors and intricate layers, reflects her deep connection to her heritage and resonates with audiences worldwide. Lola’s work has graced the walls of renowned galleries such as Zari Gallery in London, Mash Gallery in Hollywood, and Hammonds House Museum in Atlanta. In 2023, she made her first appearance at Miami Art Week, earning critical acclaim and expanding her reach in the contemporary art scene. Her pieces are also featured at The Hamilton Hotel in Alpharetta, adding a touch of cultural elegance to the prestigious space. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Lola is a passionate advocate for the arts, serving on the Arts and Culture Commission in Brookhaven, where she dedicates her time to supporting local artists and enriching the community’s cultural landscape.

 

Travis Love is a self-taught fine artist and illustrator gaining most of his knowledge and influence from the skateboarding and graffiti subcultures that he grew up around. After graduating from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 2011, with a B.F.A. in Brand Development and Graphic Arts, he has continued expanding his range of technique and creative approach over the years. His works have been featured in Hypebeast, the AJC, Source magazine, and many more publications. You can see his work on the streets of New York or the walls of Los Angeles, and worldwide. His broad range of creative skill has led to collaborations with some of the world’s leading art directors and influencers.

He began as an artist at a very young age by creating a wide range of unique character sketches and other observed objects. He has always been an artistic individual, using his art to create awareness and develop a strong brand identity. He is most recognized for his bold color and composition through his unique interweaving design, which represents togetherness and unity through abstract shapes to create a visual harmony know as tanglism released in 2016.
